Job Description: Instructional Librarian
Position: Instructional Librarian
Department: Library and Information Science
Reports to: Library Director
Position Summary:
The Instructional Librarian is responsible for developing and implementing instructional programs and services to support the teaching and learning objectives of the organization. This role requires a strong understanding of library sciences, information literacy, and educational methodologies. The Instructional Librarian collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to design and deliver effective instructional materials, workshops, and resources that promote information literacy and research skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement instructional programs and services to support the educational goals of the organization.
2. Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum.
3. Design and deliver effective instructional sessions, workshops, and tutorials on research strategies, database usage, and information evaluation.
4. Develop and maintain instructional materials, including research guides, online tutorials, and instructional handouts.
5. Provide individualized research assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
6. Assess the effectiveness of instructional programs and services through evaluation and feedback mechanisms.
7. Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices related to information literacy and library instruction.
8. Collaborate with other librarians and staff to promote library resources and services.
9. Participate in library committees, professional development activities, and relevant professional organizations.
10. Stay abreast of copyright and intellectual property issues related to library instruction.
11. Maintain accurate records and statistics related to instructional activities and student engagement.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
2. Strong knowledge of library sciences, educational methodologies, and information literacy standards.
3. Experience in designing and delivering instructional sessions and workshops.
4. Proficiency in utilizing technology and online resources for instruction and research.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
8. Attention to detail and accuracy in research assistance and instructional material development.
9. Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in library instruction.
10. Ability to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs and services.
11. Familiarity with copyright and intellectual property issues related to library instruction.
